Amazon Germany PPC Guide
PPC on Amazon Germany works as a cost-per-click auction: you bid on keywords and products in EUR, and pay only when a shopper clicks your ad on amazon.de. Key tactics: Set ACoS Targets on the Net Price. Build Keyword Lists Around German Compounds. Each is explained below, with the categories, challenges and opportunities for this store.
Amazon Germany sells in German and euros, and amazon.de also delivers to Austria, which has no Amazon store of its own. See how compound keywords, VAT-inclusive prices and German compliance checks shape your campaigns.

Marketplace Overview
Amazon Germany (amazon.de) prices in euros and is managed through sellercentral-europe.amazon.com, the Seller Central address Amazon also lists for the UK, France, Italy and Spain. Advertising runs in the Europe region of the Amazon Ads API, and advertising.amazon.de forwards to the German-language section of Amazon Ads. Shoppers can switch the storefront to English, Czech, Dutch, Polish, Turkish or Danish, but Amazon calls those translations of the most important information and names the German version of the site as definitive, so your keywords are matched against German text. The audience also crosses the border: there is no Amazon store for Austria, and amazon.de delivers there, free at standard speed for Prime members on orders Amazon fulfils.
Settle the money side before the first bid. German price law requires consumer prices to be stated as totals including VAT, charged at 19 percent as standard or 7 percent for goods on the reduced-rate list, such as books. Amazon Ads removes inclusive VAT from attributed sales, so the ACoS in your reports is measured against a net figure while the shopper sees a gross one. German law can also make a marketplace liable for VAT a seller leaves unpaid, the main exemption being a seller with a valid German VAT identification number, and Amazon's VAT rules single Germany out: elsewhere in the EU it allows a notice period, but storing stock in or shipping from Germany without a valid German VAT number can affect an account immediately.
Two compliance checks sit in front of any campaign. Amazon is legally obliged to verify extended producer responsibility in Germany for packaging, through a LUCID number from the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister, and for electrical and electronic equipment, through a WEEE registration number from stiftung ear. Listings without a valid number are deactivated, whether FBA or self-shipped, and no bid can sell a switched-off listing. Fulfilment comes last. Under the Central Europe Programme, Amazon may store German FBA stock in Polish and Czech fulfilment centres too; joining needs VAT registrations in both countries, and sellers who stay out pay an extra fee on each unit shipped from German sites. Serving Germany from inventory in another member state carries a cross-border fulfilment fee instead. Shurq's dashboard sets Amazon fees, cost of goods, PPC spend and refunds against sales for each product, updated hourly, so the route you pick shows up next to the advertising that depends on it.
PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon Germany
Set ACoS Targets on the Net Price
Attributed ad sales exclude VAT while the shelf price includes it, so work out break-even from the net price. Example: a €23.80 shelf price at the 19 percent rate holds €3.80 of VAT, leaving €20.00. With €6.00 cost of goods and €6.50 of Amazon fees, break-even ACoS is €7.50 divided by €20.00, or 37.5 percent. The same sum on the €23.80 gross price reads 47.5 percent, ten points of headroom that do not exist. See break-even ACoS for the formula, or let the break-even ACoS calculator do it.
Build Keyword Lists Around German Compounds
German joins nouns into one word with the head noun last, so Trinkflasche, Edelstahltrinkflasche and Edelstahl-Trinkflasche are separate strings for closely related searches, and some shoppers type the parts apart. A keyword built from one noun will not reliably reach the compounds containing it. Take the compounds shoppers actually used from the search term report, give joined, hyphenated and spaced forms their own exact targets where each shows demand, and write the listing in German from the start rather than translating an English title.
Cover Umlauts, ß and Austrian Wording
Umlauts may be typed as ae, oe and ue or without the dots, so Kühlschrank can arrive as Kuehlschrank or Kuhlschrank, and Swiss German writes ss where Germany writes ß. Austrian shoppers bring their own words, such as Kasten for the cupboard most Germans call a Schrank and Polster for a Kissen. English loanwords cut the other way: a mobile phone is a Handy, so the search is Handyhülle, not a translation of phone case. Test the variants your reports show before consolidating bids onto one form.
Judge New Campaigns After the Attribution Window
Sponsored Products credits a seller's sales to clicks from the previous seven days, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display generally look back fourteen, and each attributed sale is booked to the click date with VAT removed. A German test read after three days is judged on part of its sales. Let the window close before cutting a new keyword, compare each ad type on its own window, and see attribution window for how late sales revise earlier days.
Plan the Year on German Dates
Federal law fixes one public holiday, 3 October. The states set the rest; nine apply everywhere, among them Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday and both 25 and 26 December, while others such as Corpus Christi apply in some states only, so a quiet day may be regional. Children get small gifts on Nikolaustag, 6 December, and the Bescherung, the main gift giving, happens on Christmas Eve, which pulls the last useful delivery date before the 24th. Prime Day moves too: amazon.de ran it from 23 to 26 June in 2026, so take each year's date from Amazon rather than assuming July.
Bid by the Hour on One Central European Clock
Germany, Austria and Switzerland all keep Central European Time, so amazon.de's shoppers share one clock. Physical shops are generally closed on Sundays and public holidays under German shop-hours law while online ordering carries on, so measure those hours from your own data instead of assuming a weekday shape. Shurq's AI Ad Manager adjusts bids by hour and day of week from your own hourly campaign data, and the bid optimization guide covers how base bids, placement adjustments and time of day combine.

Challenges
- -Amazon must verify LUCID packaging and WEEE registrations for Germany and deactivates listings that lack them
- -Storing stock in or shipping from Germany without a valid German VAT number can restrict an account without the notice period given elsewhere in the EU
- -Shelf prices include VAT but attributed ad sales do not, so a break-even worked out on the shelf price overstates the room for ad spend
- -Compounds, umlaut spellings, ß and Austrian vocabulary split one product idea across many search strings
- -Public holidays and school summer holidays vary by state, so demand dips and back-to-school timing are regional
Opportunities
- +One German listing also serves Austria, which has no Amazon store and is supplied from amazon.de
- +Amazon's API documentation lists Germany for Sponsored Brands collection ads and product targeting, formats it does not list for several smaller European stores
- +The Central Europe Programme lets Amazon spread German FBA stock across Polish and Czech fulfilment centres, and members avoid the extra per-unit fee charged to non-members
- +Germany, Austria and Switzerland share a time zone, so one hourly schedule covers the whole German-speaking audience
- +Germany shares a Seller Central address with the UK, France, Italy and Spain, so sellers already trading there add it from their existing account
