Amazon Canada PPC Guide

PPC on Amazon Canada works as a cost-per-click auction: you bid on keywords and products in CAD, and pay only when a shopper clicks your ad on amazon.ca. Key tactics: Daypart on the Clock Your Reports Use. Cover French and English Search Terms. Each is explained below, with the categories, challenges and opportunities for this store.

Amazon Canada shares a Seller Central login with amazon.com, but not its currency, its languages, its tax rules or its holidays. Here is what that changes for bids, keywords and hourly schedules.

Marketplace Overview

Amazon Canada (amazon.ca) prices in Canadian dollars, and shoppers can switch the store between English and French. It sits in Amazon's North America and Brazil Unified Account, which means an amazon.com seller reaches the Canadian store from the same Seller Central login, and a brand approved for Brand Registry on amazon.com is approved on amazon.ca automatically. That matters because Brand Registry is the entry requirement for Sponsored Brands. Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display all run here, but the Amazon Ads console treats Canada as a separate advertising account with its own campaigns, currency and history. A keyword proven on amazon.com arrives as a hypothesis, not as data.

How you ship to Canada decides much of your advertising maths. Sellers based in the United States can serve Canadian orders from US stock through Remote Fulfillment with FBA, and Canadian Prime members get free shipping on those orders. The alternative is importing into Canadian fulfilment centres, which are not connected to the US network, with you or an agent acting as importer of record; a business based outside Canada first needs a Business Number from the Canada Revenue Agency. The two lanes do not run side by side: an ASIN with stock already in Canada is not eligible for Remote Fulfillment until that stock has sold through.

Sales tax follows the North American model rather than the European one. Tax is charged on top of the selling price at rates set by the province or territory the order ships to, so your price is a pre-tax figure and break-even ACoS works from it directly, with no VAT to strip out. Who collects the tax depends on your registrations: without a standard GST/HST number on file, Amazon collects and remits GST/HST on qualifying sales itself, and some provincial taxes follow rules that vary by province. Electronics, batteries and lighting can also carry Environmental Handling Fees that the seller must collect and remit, a per-unit cost to include before setting any target. Confirm your position with a Canadian tax adviser.

PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon Canada

1

Daypart on the Clock Your Reports Use

Amazon's Ads API documentation shows a Canadian advertising profile on the America/Los_Angeles time zone, and reports follow the profile's time zone, so hourly amazon.ca data reads in Pacific time. Toronto and Montreal keep Eastern time, three hours ahead, and Atlantic Canada and Newfoundland are later still. Several western provinces and territories have moved, or are moving, to one year-round time while Ontario, most of Quebec and the Atlantic provinces still change clocks, so the gap is not fixed. Check your own account's time zone, then build dayparting from hourly revenue per click on that clock rather than shifting a US schedule.

2

Cover French and English Search Terms

Shoppers can browse amazon.ca in French, and French queries reach your search term report like any other. Amazon Ads' keyword translation feature translates keywords into the store's local language, and for Canada it lists French among the languages it translates from, so do not count on it for French keywords. Add French terms yourself as separate exact targets, with and without accents, and judge French search terms on relevance before negating them. Quebec's French language rules also cover the product and its packaging, and a listing removed for non-compliance takes its ads with it.

3

Spell Keywords the Canadian Way, Both Ways

Canada's federal Translation Bureau notes that Canadian spelling wavers between British and American forms, with no clearly established standard. Its own guidance pairs British endings such as colour and centre with American ones such as organize. A keyword list copied from amazon.com misses colour, and one copied from amazon.co.uk misses organizer. Keep both spellings of your root terms as separate exact keywords until the search term report shows which form brings the orders.

4

Convert Bids Instead of Copying the Number

Amazon publishes the same minimum and maximum Sponsored Products bid figures for Canada as for the United States, but in Canadian dollars, so a bid pasted across as a number is a different amount of money. Set Canadian bids from Canadian price and margin. If Build International Listings syncs your prices from amazon.com, Amazon converts them at the exchange rate and updates them on a cycle that varies from daily to weekly, so price and break-even ACoS can move while you change nothing. Editing a synced price by hand breaks its link to the US price.

5

Plan on Amazon Canada's Event Calendar

Amazon announces Canadian deal events on aboutamazon.ca. In 2026 that meant a Big Spring Sale in March, Prime Day in June and Prime Big Deal Days in early October, the week before Canadian Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday run from late November into December, and Amazon has run a Boxing Day deals event up to 26 December. Start times are given in Pacific time, so an event opening just after midnight is already the small hours in Toronto. Raise budgets before the opening, and allow for regional holidays such as Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, a holiday in Quebec only.

6

Restart the Lookback When an ASIN Changes Lanes

Because Canadian stock and Remote Fulfillment cannot serve the same ASIN at once, a product switches lanes on a particular day. The delivery promise and the fees can both change that day, and conversion rate moves with them. Treat the switch as a break in the data: start bid lookback windows from the switch date instead of averaging across it, and confirm Canadian stock cover for the whole push before raising top of search bids on the local lane.

Challenges

  • -The Ads console keeps a separate Canadian account, so campaign history starts from zero even under one Seller Central login
  • -Hourly reports read in Pacific time while Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada keep Eastern, Atlantic and Newfoundland time
  • -Federal law requires product identity and net quantity in English and French on most prepackaged goods, and Quebec requires French at least as prominent as any other language
  • -Who collects GST/HST and provincial tax depends on your registrations, and Environmental Handling Fees add a per-unit cost on some electronics, batteries and lighting
  • -FBA Canada needs an importer of record, and an ASIN with Canadian stock cannot use Remote Fulfillment until that stock sells through

Opportunities

  • +With a Unified Account, Brand Registry approval carries over from amazon.com, so the entry requirement for Sponsored Brands is already met
  • +Remote Fulfillment with FBA lets you test Canadian demand from US stock, with free shipping for Canadian Prime members, before importing anything
  • +Prices are set before tax, as on amazon.com, so break-even ACoS works from the price you choose
  • +French search terms and Canadian spellings are keyword ground that a listing copied from amazon.com never covers
  • +Amazon announces Canadian deal events in advance, from the Big Spring Sale to Boxing Day, so budget and stock can be planned to dated peaks
